Again, suspected herdsmen attack Nimbo in Enugu

Many people were seriously injured when some yet to be identified persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen attacked Opanda village in Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu in the early hours of Monday.

It was gathered the assailants used machetes to inflict different degrees of injuries on many people in the village, a development that allegedly led to the death of some of the victims.

Sources further disclosed that the villagers were still searching for more victims of the attack on Monday morning in the bushes.

It was learnt that about eight persons who were in critical condition had been taken to Enugu for medical attention.

Sources claimed that many people died during the attack but could not disclose the number of persons that lost their lives.

Border communities dominated by farmers have been witnessing series of attacks from suspected herdsmen since the Ukpabi Nimbo Community attack in 2016 that led to the death of many people.

Reacting to the incident, the Enugu State Police Command Public Relations Officer,  PPRO, Daniel Ndukwe, said “Following information received at Nimbo Police Division in the early hours of today, 26/07/2021, alleging that yet-to-be-identified hoodlums attacked some persons in a location at Opanda Village in Nimbo Community of Uzo-Uwani LGA, Police Operatives attached to the Division raced to the scene and found three young men with degrees of machete cuts.

“They were immediately rushed to a nearby hospital, where they are responding to treatment.

“Meanwhile, the area is calm, while the Commissioner of Police,  Mohammed Ndatsu Aliyu,  has ordered the conduct of the thorough investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the perpetrators to book. He also called on residents of the area to remain calm and assist the Police with useful information.”
