Again, PDP loses two Reps members to APC

Published by

Two members of the House of Representatives officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday.

They are Hon. Adamu Tanko, representing Suleja, Gurara, and Tafa Federal Constituency of Niger State, and Hon. Jallo Husseini Mohammed, representing Igabi Federal Constituency of Kaduna State.

The notices of their defection were announced by Speaker Tajudeen Abbas, who presided over the session.

Citing internal divisions within the PDP as their reason for switching parties, the lawmakers also stated that their political ideologies now align more closely with the APC.

According to the letter read on behalf of Hon. Tanko, his decision to leave the PDP was reached “after careful consideration and consultation with my constituents. I have decided to defect from the Peoples Democratic Party to the All Progressives Congress.”

The elated Speaker congratulated Hon. Adamu, saying, “Welcome to the greatest party in Africa, the party of progress and development, the party of peace and unity. You’re most welcome.”

Meanwhile, the Speaker ruled that “there’s no point of order this time because it has been taken in advance,” adding that the Minority Leader was aware that two lawmakers had expressed interest in defecting from the APC to the PDP.

In a swift reaction, Minority Leader Hon. Kingsley Chinda, after the announcement of Hon. Mohammed’s defection, frowned at the reasons given for the move.
