Again, illegal residential houses, worship centres, shops, schools, others demolished in Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), on Tuesday, demolished another set of illegal structures ranging from residential houses, worship centres, shops, schools, vocational workshops, block making industries, uncompleted buildings and shanties in Iddo Sabo community, Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), Abuja.

Chairman, FCT Ministerial Taskforce on City Sanitation, Comrade Ikharo Attah, who led the team, insisted that it was going to be a comprehensive removal of all the infractions in the community, especially those near the road corridors.

According to him: “We started the exercise in Iddo Sabo. What we did today is like a demolition rehearsal, because we have not really started doing what we are supposed to do here.

“We have to spend time to work here because the illegality committed here is really very ugly,” he declared.

]MHe said there were very few structures in the community about 18 months ago, which hardly could someone notice from the Airport road, but today, the structures are very massive in their numbers, and it is a worrisome development.

“The land was hitherto been used by the locals for farming activities pending when they are fully resettled, are now converted into a massive housing site,” he explained.

He, therefore, advised property developers to desist from the acquisition of land from village chiefs with a view to escaping the consequences of contravening the FCT land use Act.

The demolition team, however, comprises security personnel and relevant agencies of the FCT Administration.
