Again, Herdsmen kill eight in Benue

No fewer than eight people have reportedly been killed, and several others are said to be missing as gunmen suspected to be herdsmen attacked three communities in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State.

The attack, according to locals, happened on Saturday, just as residents of the affected communities were reported to have fled.

Hon. Godwin Edoh, the lawmaker representing Agatu State Constituency in the State Assembly, disclosed this to newsmen through a telephone call on Sunday, stating that eight people were killed.

He explained that the attackers invaded the affected communities simultaneously between 12 pm to 4 pm on Saturday.

He mentioned the affected communities to include Ogwumogbo, Ikpele, and Ejima, adding that the attackers have sacked the people, saying several people are missing.

He said, “Despite all our efforts, the killings have persisted. No one is coming to our aid, and the Governor is quiet. I do not understand this.”

When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene, said, “I do not have this report.”

It will be recalled that three security operatives were recently killed, and four others lost their lives in a renewed attack on Agatu local government area by armed bandits in the past two weeks.
