The people of Eruwa in Ibarapa East local government area have commenced the moves for the selection of the new Eleruwa of Eruwa land in accordance with the 1957 Eruwa Chieftaincy Declaration.
The throne became vacant after the removal of Oba Samuel Adegbola via a Supreme Court ruling in 2019.
Meanwhile, in compliance with the 1957 Chieftaincy Declaration, Labirikusi Ruling House has resolved their differences with the appointment of Chief Dejo Akinlade as the head of their family.
The decision was taken at the enlarge meeting of the Ruling House at Oke-Oba, Eruwa at the weekend.
Akinlade, as made known at the meeting would lead the delegation of the ruling to the Chairman of the Ibarapa East local area on Monday to inform him of the development.
The Council chairman was said to have written separate letters to the four families that made up Labirikusi Ruling House requesting the leadership of the Ruling House in accordance with the declaration.
It was based on this premise that the members of the family unanimously selected Chief Akinlade to champion their course in the selection of the new Monarch.
In his speech, Chief Akinlade thanked members of the family for the opportunity given to him to lead them, as well as champion their course in the process of selecting the new Eleruwa.
According to him, “My appeal goes to our people to put the past behind them and forge a common front. We should not allow other people to capitalize on the perceived division among us to rob us of our rights.
It is the turn of Labirikusi Ruling House to produce the next Eleruwa of Eruwaland. We should not forget the historical fact that two ruling houses; Labirikusi and Akalako in accordance with the 1957 Declaration have right to the throne.
The immediate past Eleruwa is from Akalako Ruling House. It is now the turn of Labirikusi Ruling House.
We are going to present the letter on the outcome of our meeting to the Chairman of the Council on Monday.
We expect him to do the same by forwarding the letter to the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters so that the process of selecting the Eleruwa can commence in earnest.
Also in an interview, a nonagerian from Akalako Ruling House Pa Oyebimpe Moses confirmed that Akalako family had ruled Eruwa town eight times, and, thereby, urged the authorities to follow the laid down rules on Eruwa chieftaincy declaration of 1957 in the selection of the new eleruwa.
Pa Oyebimpe equally urged members of the Akalako ruling house allegedly moving to present candidates for the vacant stool of Eleruwa to have a re-think for prosperity and progress of the town, emphasising that it is the turn of the Labirikusi house to present the new king.
