After 15 years outage, electricity restored in Delta community

Published by

The people of Ekuku-Agbor in Ika South Local Government Area of Delta State have every reason to celebrate following the restoration of electricity to the agrarian community 15 years after its electricity facility broke down.

Power was finally restored on October 24 2, after the completion of a sub-station which has put paid to years of outage and signaled hope for socioeconomic improvement in Ekuku-Agbor, Agbor-Alidinma, Obi-Agbor, Egbudu Akan and other communities.

Community leaders and residents as they jubilate,  showered encomiums on the Delta State governor, Sheriff Oborevwori and the chairman of Ika South Local Government Area of the state Jerry Ehiwarior for their efforts in the power restoration.

Nigerian Tribune reports that Ehiwarior, a native of Ekuku Agbor, on assuming office as Commissioner for Power and Energy in 2023, initiated measures to restore electricity to the area.

Subsequently, a contract was awarded by the state government to resuscitate the power substation in the town.

Speaking on the completion of the project, community leaders, including Chief P. C. Aliemeke, Mr. Simon Okocha, President-General of Ekuku-Agbor community and Chief Isaac Ebonka of Agbor-Alidinma, said they were glad to witness the historic moment after years of lost hope.

While thanking the governor for the gesture, the people said their confidence in the state government has been boosted, adding that with the restoration of electricity supply, the economic activities in Ekuku-Agbor and adjoining communities that cut across Ika South and Aniocha South local government areas will now be revived.
