The Ishienu Amofu community in Nkanu East local government Area of Enugu has elected a new monarch.
The new monarch, HRM Christian Ogbonnaya Agu, popularly known as Christag was elected as the Igwe of Ishienu Amofu Nkerefi after the stool has been vacant for 10 years following the brutal murder His Royal Highness, Peter Onuoha in 2013.
His Royal Highness, Igwe Chief Christian Ogbonnaya Agu (CHRISTAG, Eze Oha Chiri) was duly elected by villages of Ishienu Amofu community in line with the constitution of the Community town union.
According to Hon Ndubuisi Anih, the President General of the community, the new Igwe was celebrated with the heroic Ebe Umuogbii traditional music and with full expression of joy.
He described the process of selection as smooth, free and fair.
He said, “The presence of security operatives, including men of the Nigeria Police ably led by the DPO of Nkanu East, Civil Defence officers and others helped ensure that the process was completely rancour free.
“The community leadership is ready to present the duly elected Igwe to both the local and state governments in accordance with the laws of Enugu state within the week.”
Meanwhile, the igwe elect pledged to work in line with the laws of the land and to serve the good people of Ishienu Amofu with diligence and the fear of God.
