The African Diaspora Union (AFRIDU) is set to organise international gathering in honour of the Africans in Diaspora 6th Region, which is a monumental homecoming event aimed at reuniting Africans in the diaspora with their ancestral homeland.
Africa’s diaspora is coming home as AFRIDU hosts this historic reunion, bridging 500 years of separation. This momentous event marks the long journey home for Africa’s children, reclaiming their heritage and restoring their pride. The heartbeat of Africa calls its children back, welcoming them to a celebration of unity and cultural heritage.
The African Diaspora Union is hosting this international homecoming event in Abuja, Nigeria, bringing together Africa’s diaspora from around the world. Nigeria is set to welcome its sons and daughters in a historic reunion, celebrating their shared heritage and promoting economic development. The Global African Economic Investment Summit will take place during the event, showcasing business opportunities in Nigeria.
The event, jointly hosted by AFRIDU and the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), will provide a platform for African diaspora investors to explore business opportunities in Nigeria, promoting economic growth and development. It will also honor African leaders who fought for independence and liberation.
Key highlights of the event include the launching of the African Twelve Apostles/Liberators Book, posthumous awards to families of former African liberators/leaders, and the Badagry Door of Return Festival. Deserving African descendants will also be honored with chieftaincy titles.
The International Organization for Migration defines diaspora as members of ethnic and national communities who have left but maintain links with their homeland. AFRIDU recognizes the Historic African Diaspora as indigenous Africans forcibly carried away into slavery over 500 years ago.
“This historic gathering marks a new era for Africa and its diaspora,” said Archbishop Prof. Chidiebere Anelechi Ogbu, AFRIDU President. “We are bridging the gap between Africans at home and those abroad, fostering unity, economic empowerment and cultural heritage.”
The event will take place from October 18-27, 2024, with Nigeria’s President, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring the opening session. The Presidential Banquet Hall in Abuja will host the opening ceremony.
AFRIDU’s vision is to promote Pan-Africanism, empowering African peoples through cultural heritage preservation, human rights advocacy, and environmental protection. The organization seeks recognition, justice, and development for Africans worldwide.
Nigeria’s role in hosting this event underscores its commitment to African unity and cooperation. The country’s rich cultural heritage and economic opportunities make it an ideal hub for diaspora engagement.
The African diaspora community is eagerly anticipating this historic reunion. “This event is a dream come true,” said Dr. Patricia King, an African-American delegate. “We’re reclaiming our roots and forging a brighter future.”
