African fashion is a big foreign exchange earner to explore —McPherson

The minister of Tourism, Acompong, Jamiaca, Mr Timothy Mcpherson has identified African traditional attires as the next export tourism products that must be explore to the hit the fashion runway.

Mcpherson who spoke exclusively with Travelpulse&MICE in Port Harcourt, recently, said there is a huge foreign exchange in packaging African fashion as tourism product.

“Gradually African fashion sense is taking the stage at world platform and to be on top of the game, we must direct our resources and energy towards building a content identity within Africa to practically promote Africa to Africans.

“We have the population, products and market to jointly package and market Africa to the world, and we can only do so through those African products that have received global recognition.”

Mcpherson explained that nine among every 10 tourists that visit Africa takes back different type if souvenirs back home and among these souvenirs African attires are predominant.

“Also there is need to for Africa to organise a fashion show to showcase not only the Africa attires and styles but also have a runway show where all the models on the runway will all parase African queens.” He added.

“I have already conceptualised a project to bring local Africa clothiers from different African countries to Jamiaca to train people on how to mass produce African attires for a ready-made market within and outside the continent who are in dare need of it.

“My visit to Nigeria is awesome and a big opportunity to see the beautify country and people and i must tell you, i have a lot of beauty experiences and ideas to take back home. I have seen different areas of interest that Acompong, Jamiaca can synergise with Nigeria to promote tourism activities that will benefit the duo.
