African Drums Festival, unifying factor ―Obey

Nigeria’s popular Juju Musician, Ebenezer Obey, says African Drums Festival has united people from different parts of Africa and the world.

Obey, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Sunday described the festival as unique and a symbol of peace.

“For me, African Drums Festival, there is a lot to gain. Our nation, Nigeria has a lot to gain. Ogun State, the initiator of this festival, has a lot to gain.

“Drum stands for awareness. When you beat or strike any drum, it brings out a sound that whoever listens to the sound cannot but be touched.

“You can’t listen to the sound of any drum and put away your ears; it catches your attention. Which means drum is for peace; is for love; is for unity and that’s what we need in Africa.

“ We need unity and peace in Nigeria, in Ogun State and all over the world. It draws people together from different parts of Africa and even from international communities.

“I am so happy and I thank God for the government of Sen. Ibikunle Amosun for this initiative,’’ Obey said.

The music maestro, who advised the people on the need to preserve the nation’s culture, appealed to the state government to make the Drums Festival a yearly event.

He, however, noted that the music industry in the country was growing, saying that everyday different musical group spring up in addition to existing ones.
