Afraid of sharing your work publicly? Discover 5 ways to overcome your fears

You know that overwhelming feeling that could come with creating a masterpiece or accomplishing something, and not willing to share it publicly; that’s fear. It could be fear of being misunderstood, imposter syndrome, self-doubt, or perfectionism.

Fear is an element that is consistently present in our lives regardless of the choices or situations that we are faced with. However, we need to build resilience that encourages us to overcome our fears.

Now, how do you overcome your fears and share your work publicly, regardless?

1. Face your fears

The best way to conquer your fears and challenges that might come your way is to face them. What’s the worst that could happen? You would never know until you face them. You can also encourage yourself by coming to terms with the fact that regardless of what happens in life, you’ll always have to deal with challenges and fears. So, face them and just do what you have to do.

2. Practice

If it’s your first time sharing your work, you’re likely going to be afraid because you don’t know exactly what to expect. The hack that never fails is that when you do it the second time, it’ll get better than the first time. When you do it the ninth time, it’ll get better than the eighth time, and the cycle continues.

This does not in any way imply that you won’t have fears even on the 10th or 100th trial, it means that you’ll be able to build resilience on how to do it regardless of negative comments from anyone out there and that’s the power of PRACTICE.

3. Do away with perfectionism

If you wait for your work to be flawless before letting the world see it, you might never get to share your work. The feeling of perfectionism is not permanent, there’ll always be something to improve on and you might not discover the mistakes at a go. That’s why it’s beautiful to embrace imperfections because one step at a time lead you to ‘perfection’ – growth is a more suitable word.

4. Guidance and feedback

If you constantly find yourself trapped in the fear of sharing your work publicly, you can embrace guidance and seek honest feedback from people about your work.

You can have symbols of guidance like a mentor, a coach, a community, or someone who has the same interests as yours. Also, feedback will help to highlight the things that you need to do better or encourage you to keep doing what you’re already doing.

5. Acknowledge and celebrate your small wins

Could it be that you are constantly afraid of sharing your work publicly because you are waiting for a big win and ignoring the seemingly small wins? A big win is big only because you said s. And this is because of the element of perspective that’s present in human life.

Every time you get to share your work, always remember to acknowledge your win regardless of how many people you know or think are watching. Also, never treat them like they are insignificant because they are not.

In the end, the goal is to share your work, create visibility for your efforts and let people know you for who you are. Yes, do just that. Regardless of the fear or anxiety, let the world see your work. It’ll keep getting better.
