The Ondo state chapter of the Pan Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, on Thursday, eulogised the immediate past Secretary General of the group, Bashorun Seinde Arogbofa on his 84th birthday, describing him as a beacon of hope for not only the Yoruba race but for the entire country
The group in a statement signed by its Publicity Secretary in Ondo state, Eric Oluwole, also described the elder statesman as an exemplary, visionary, peace loving and compassionate leader whose devotion and commitment to the cause of the Yoruba nation was unquantifiable and epic.
Oluwole said Arogbofa has been steadfast in defending and projecting the Yoruba culture and values, noting that the renowned author is still beaming his searchlight for the progress and development of his people and Nigeria in general.
He described Arogbofa as a very patriotic Nigerian who gave his best to the service of the country and not tired to join other statesmen to proffer solutions to the challenges confronting the country
The group also congratulated a Chieftain of the Afenifere in the state, Chief Femi Aluko on the celebration of his birthday, who also turned 84 in February.
The statement read: “Basorun Arogbofa and Chief Aluko have for several decades proved to be dependable leaders over which the Afenifere and the Yoruba race are very proud.
“It is no surprise therefore that our two leaders have remained symbols of progress and advancement.
“Basorun Seinde Arogbofa; a well-respected and nationally recognized author, a recipient of the national honours award of the Order of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, OFR, has contributed to development of the group and the country”
Afenifere while eulogizing and recognizing the contributions of the prolific and award winning author whose works cut across fiction and non-fiction, reiterated the fact that leaders like Arogbofa are iconic and a special breed in the history books of the Yoruba nation.
“The 84years old Arogbofa, the immediate past Secretary General of Afenifere; is a renowned educationist and a Fellow of the Society for Peace Studies and Practice.
He was at one time, the National President of ANCOPSS (All Nigerian Conference of Principals of Secondary Schools) whose contributions to the educational advancement of Yoruba culture and traditions remain etched in the minds of the race.
“We also used the opportunity to celebrate another prominent elder and chieftain of the Pan Yoruba group; Afenifere, Chief Femi Aluko, who clocked 84 years on 2nd, February 2023.
The group described Chief Aluko, the former Commissioner of Information the state as “a great personality whose contributions remain indelible to the Yoruba nation and the nation at large”
Afenifere extolled the virtues of Aluko which placed him on the high pedestal of great men and leaders whose wealth of experience have become a well of wisdom that youths of the Yoruba nation have continued to garner from his knowledge.
