Afenifere congratulates new Ohanaeze Ndigbo leadership

Published by

PAN- Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, on Wednesday congratulated the newly elected leadership of Ohanaeze Ndigbo under former Information Minister, Chief John Nwodo, as President-General, urging the new leadership to quickly settle down for business and set its agenda for Ndigbo’s crucial contribution to search for nationhood.

Afenifere made the call in its congratulatory message to the new leadership made available to newsmen in Lagos by its national publicity secretary, Mr Yinka Odumakin, even as the group commended Ohanaeze for having a seamless transition, which it said had produced another leadership for it at this crucial period of nation’s history.

The pan- Yoruba group said the call became imperative because Nigerians cannot pretend that all was well with the country at this moment that the entire architecture of governance and statehood were under intense strains of anachronistic politics of conquest and domination that had been the bane of our country.

“We cannot pretend that all is well with our country at this moment that the entire architecture of governance and statehood are under intense strains of anachronistic politics of conquest and domination that has been the bane of our country.

“We ask the new leadership to quickly settle down for business and set its agenda for Ndigbo crucial contribution to our search for nationhood,” Afenifere said.

The group, while observing that the soul of Nigeria was being pulled in different directions by forces of the retrogressive status quo and the forward looking brigade that favoured practising of proper federalism, lamented that “Nigeria is fast disappearing before our very eyes and it is only those who do not care about where all this would end that can afford to pretend that we should continue the way we are.

“We have very little time on our hands to get Nigeria back on track by rebuilding it along federal lines so that all nationalities can fulfil their manifest destiny within their civilisations and contribute to an effective centre that will run agreed common services,” Afenifere said.

It, however, assured that it was ready to partner Ohanaeze leadership and other like minds across the country for a collective rescue mission, adding, “On our part, we are ready to work with Ohanaeze leadership and other like minds across Nigeria for a collective rescue mission.”
