AE-FETHA job seekers lost over N18m to fraudsters ― CMD

Published by

Chief Medical Director of Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital Abakaliki(AE-FUTHA), Dr Emeka Onwe, has disclosed that some desperate job seekers lost  N18 million to fraudsters in the hospital who are using his name and picture to perpetrate their acts.

Onwe, who noted that the hospital was not recruiting new staff, stated this at AE-FUTHA while addressing members of the correspondent chapel of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ebonyi State chapter who paid him a courtesy visit.

He expressed worry over the increase in employment scams in the institution saying the police had arrested some of the fraudsters.

He, however, noted that the management of the hospital has reported the matter to the Department of State Security Service (DSS) for investigation and necessary action.

“Every moment, people will just be saying we are employing, and they are just using that to defraud innocent citizens of Nigeria, collecting money from people and they will be using my name.

“Every now and then you go to Facebook, they will be using my name that I said you should pay this and that.

“We have been making several disclaimers to the media that we are not employing. We have just advertised for internship, housemanship is not inclusive because that one is now done centrally.

“They will use it to defraud people that we have advertised for employment and changed some things and they will tell them there is a special list in Abuja.

“Some people have defrauded others to the tune of N18million. The police is handling it. We have reported some cases to DSS.

“I have advocated that whenever they catch people defrauding, they should be prosecuted.

“AE-FUTHA is not doing any employment. We have only advertised for internship. The last time we employed was December 2019. Should we have any reason to employ, we will follow the normal process,” he said.
