Advice to Nigerian parents

Published by

It is an accomplished fact that many Nigerians, especially parents believe that conflict is normal and deviance is a way of life as evident in the political turbulence and social decadence that the nation is presently faced with. It is in recognition of this that Professor Wole Soyinka in one of his satire books, “Ibadan the penkelemes years” derogatorily referred to Nigeria as a land of law and disorder since many Nigerians see laws as rule that are meant to be broken with impunity.

This ugly scenario of lawlessness is even worsened by the ineffectiveness of our country criminal justice systems (police & law courts) that make criminals go unpunished and ceased to be the last hope of common man for justice or redress. Frankly, the problem is not in our stars that we are Nigerians, the problem is rather in ourselves.

Therefore, as parents we need to take the destiny of our nation in our hands by starting to do things right. And this has to start from home that is made up of parents and their children. So, to save our nation from this present predicament and have a better future, we need to study our children who are future leaders and provide them with appropriate learning materials and moral training for them to assume their rightful positions as great future leaders.

So, let us study the Nigerian children and create the enabling environment that would make them succeed in life. For they are our hearts desire and God-given gifts to be cherished and catered for. Let’s study them for a candle does not lose its light by lighting another candle.
