Adopt IPSAS now, ANAN president encourages non-conforming states

THE Association of National Accountants of Nigeria has lauded the Federal Government and all states governments that have keyed into the implementation of the International Public Sector Accounting Standard (IPSAS), while also encouraging other states that are yet to adopt it to do so.

President of the association, Mr Anthony Chukwuemeka, said this during the sixth Mandatory Continuing Professional Development (MCPD) programme, at Jogor Centre, Ibadan, recently.

According to him, “There could be no better time than now for the government to engage relevant professionals with the requisite expertise to bring Nigeria out of the doldrums.

“The effort of the Federal Government to reflate the economy by injecting funds for various capital projects to cushion the effects of the recession is highly commendable.

“Also, the resolve of the Federal Government and the Central bank of Nigeria (CBN) in initiating the flexible exchange rate policy is a commendable development which will improve our economy and aid an exchange rate market driven by the forces of demand and supply, boost investors confidence and increase the capacity of the nation,” he said.

He further stated that the benefits accruing the members for attending program and the disciplinary measures against members who shun ANAN program, while his is expecting all the members to be its worthy ambassador by exhibiting ethical conduct in the discharge of their professional callings.

He urged the government to provide more suitable supports for Agriculture as a means of diversifying the economy and to explore opportunities in non-oil sectors of the economy through funding.

Alh. Aderemi  Jimoh, who is the chairman of Oyo  state branch also added that his assuring that the members shall continue to maintain the integrity, credibility and be accountable in any position they found themselves.

“I am also using this medium to appreciate the Oyo State Governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi for allowing some members of ANAN to occupy various sensitive posts in the state. He said”.

Mr Akinola Olusola, the auditor general for local government, who is also the a member of the association and the representative of the Oyo state governor Senator Abiola Ajimobi, also commends the efforts of the organizing committee for putting all things into places during the program.

“I want to intimidate the fact that the governor has been developing the workers of the state in terms of training, re-training and on the job training, he has been equally bringing all round developments to the door step of the state with adequate security of life and properties. He said.”
