Experts have urged the federal government to adopt a fourth Industrial Revolution to robust education funding in order to keep a skilled workforce and reduce the problem of brain drain in Nigeria.
The call was made in Maiduguri on Saturday, at a webinar organised by the ABK Alliance Ltd, with the theme: In Search of a robust funding paradigm for education in Nigeria.
Speaking on “Investing in Better Strategic Future”, Prof. Abdulfattah Aboaba, Department Of Computer Engineering at University Of Maiduguri, explained that adopting hybrid approach to education would enable Nigeria to reach the level of high discovery and creativity and it will help in bringing more revenue to the government.
According to him, Nigeria needs to change its modules of education system from the colonial inherited one to the modern one which focuses on creativity and productivity.
He noted that the government should not see education as a body but as a system that is capable of launching the country into the high ground.
He stressed that the government should invest more in fourth Industrial Revolution, adding that “the more you create new things, the more the economy grows faster because the world will seek partnership with you as we are now seeking partnership with China”.
“Adopting new ideas and sustainable models will help putting an end to the challenges of education funding in the country.
“We know that they have funding issues, so can we now use our brain resources and think of the way out. That is why I brought this sustainable model whereby the country makes some investment into the educational sector”.
“With careful monitoring and participation from the private sector in the education industrial complex to see that those money given by the government will after some time be able to take care of the university themselves and from there the government can disengage either totally or partially”.
In his speech, Prof. Sir Oluwole Adebayo Sodipo, stated that the aim of the seminar is to educate the public and alert the government and all relevant stakeholders about what ought to be done so that the nation should be developed.
“There is unfinished business about education in this country, before now so many papers were presented in this area of education and this we hoped will have far reaching effects”.
“With this one, the aim is to use education as a veritable tool for national development, we are sure all the papers and suggestions will be forwarded to the appropriate channels, so that necessary action will be taken to change the narrative”.
