Oyo State Governor Abiola Ajimobi
Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo state has decried cynics of his administration’s strides since assumption of office in 2011, noting that his government had impacted on all sectors more than any other government in the history of the state.
Ajimobi who spoke after inspecting some just completed World bank assisted culverts in flood prone areas of the state, said he was buoyed that his achievements in infrastructure, economy, industry, education, health, socio physical development, urban planning and upgrade of the traditional institution stood tall above the strides of any other administration in the state.
Noting the tendency for “mischievous” assessment of his administration’s strides by the opposition, Ajimobi avowed that he was satisfied that he had delivered good governance which was driven by Godliness.
“If you look at our administration, there is no area that we have not touched. Be it infrastructure, economy, industry, education, health, even traditional institution. We have promised to improve everything we met on ground and we have turned everything around. Though there is nothing that you will do that cynics, mischief makers will not talk about, we are happy that today that more than any other government before us, we have done very well.
“Without sounding immodest, I am a godly person and the meaning of Godliness is service to humanity. And it is that Godliness that drives me. It is the willingness to serve. I will work till the 28th of May, 2019. It is that same year that I will be 70 years old. For me it is that satisfaction I get. Look at the government house for example; we have changed it at a very cheap rate.
“When I pass through all the roads we have done, I feel very happy. Happiness is about impacting positively on the lives of other people. That is the stage of life I am. What we are doing is laying the foundation for modern Oyo state.
“Whether you like it or not, Oyo state is a big village, lifestyle, attitude, mentality. But we are changing it. Look at what we have done in education, we produced the best students in WAEC in Nigeria, this year; our opponents are not talking now. They are talking of 30 pupils in a classroom. But what is important is whether more than 50 students in a class, they are doing well. What is important in education is for our people to learn and be empowered, to be useful to the society,” Ajimobi said.
Ajimobi who spoke alongside Coordinator, Ibadan Urban Flood Management Project (World Bank Assisted), Mr Dayo Ayorinde, in areas like Ogbere-pegba, Cele Rainbow, Ola Adura and Sasha Oshajin, said the state was better poised not to witness a recurrence of the August 2011 flood disaster in the state.
This is just as he assured of upgrading the Eleyele water front into a tourist centre within the next twelve months.
