Adhere to your oath of office, constitution, CJN charges Judicial officers

The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen

THE Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Walter Onnoghen on Tuesday charged judicial officers to adhere to their oath of office and the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the discharge of their duties.

The CJN who gave the charge yesterday at the Supreme Court in Abuja, while swearing-in Justice Abdul Adamu Kafarati as the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court said the law and God will protect Judges who administer justice without fair or favour.

Justice Kafarati, who has been in the acting capacity since April last year was inaugurated following his nomination by the National Judicial Council (NJC) and the approval by President Muhammadu Buhari as well as his subsequent screening and confirmation by the National Assembly.

Justice Onnoghen said judicial officers can never go wrong if they are guided by the rule of law and the constitution, and urged Judges to remain focused to their duties as the judiciary remains the only hope of every mankind.

He admonished the newly sworn-in Chief Judge to, “Remain‎ focused, courageous and not to run away from your responsibilities.”

The CJN noted that ‎Nigerian judiciary will always do its best to remain the arbiter within the other arms of government and the public.

“Be positive in your conduct”, he charged Justice Kafarati, who was appointed a judge of the Federal High Court in October 1991 and succeeded Justice Ibrahim Aura, who bowed out of the judiciary in April last year, having attained the mandatory retirement age of 70 years.
