Adeyemi to host 7 grandmasters of Nigerian history

AFRICA Historians will converge on Adeyemi College of Education (ACE) Ondo, to deliberate on the strategies to resuscitate and reinvigorate the study of history in Nigeria.

The institution Provost, Prof. Olukoya Ogen, who disclosed this in Ondo, on Wednesday said at least seven icons of modern African historiography are expected at the three-day event slated to hold from Thursday, 1st March to Saturday, 3rd March 2018.

Ogen listed the eminent scholars to include, Prof Banji Akintoye, Emeritus Prof. Jide Osuntokun, Prof. Anthony Asiwaju and Prof. Obaro Ikime.

Others are Prof. Dahiru Yahya, Prof. Olatunji Olorunmehin and Prof. Tajudeen Gbadamosi.

According to Ogen, “These distinguished and eminent pioneers of post-colonial Nigerian historiography will be in the College to deliberate on the strategies for resuscitating and reinvigorating historical scholarship in Nigeria.

“The choice of our College for the hosting of this meeting out of several universities and higher institutions of learning in Nigeria speaks volume about our commitment to academic excellence”

Ogen added that the choice also justified that the institution deserved “our long-awaited and well-deserved university status”

He said the historians is expected to pay homage to the Osemawe of Ondo Kingdom, Oba Victor Kiladejo during and hold an interactive session with staff and students from the Department of History.

The College will also use the occasion to confer a lifetime Achievement Platinum Awards on the distinguished visiting scholars.
