The ownership spared no expense to make the event a lavish and memorable one for the staff who came from all business units across the country to have an evening of fun, dining and wining at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
This is not the first time that Globacom would host its staff to a lavish staff party; it has always been a tradition. But the company would not let the opportunity slip by to celebrate its workforce to hallmark their contributions to the epochal 20 years anniversary of Globacom.
Indeed, some of them confessed that the grand event was well worth the celebration of such a milestone the wholly Nigerian owned company has witnessed. The event was styled “Green,” enabling most of the attendees to come out in various designs of the Glo green colour.
The event, which had the Executive Vice Chairman of Globacom, Mrs Bella Disu and Group Executive Director, Miss Shade Michael Adenuga, in attendance, also attracted Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke and Ovation Publisher, Chief Dele Momodu.
Several brand influencers of Globacom equally attended the beautiful event. These included Nollywood stars such as Ego Boyo, Bolanle Ninalowo and Juliet Ibrahim. Popular comedian, Broda Shaggy and fashion icon, Mai Atafo were also at the exciting event.
There were various fun competitions lined up for staff to participate and win handsome cash prizes. Some of these included Best Dressed Staff, Singing and Dancing competitions, and the pageant that produced Mr and Miss Glo. The last one had the trappings of a world-class beauty show as contestants exhibited the stuff of those who had been used to the klieg lights before the event. Their outings in traditional wears brought out the beauty of Nigeria’s major cultures of Hausa, Ibo and Yoruba. It was indeed spectacular seeing these staff of Globacom celebrating the cultures of the country.
In the Mr Glo contest, Ifoghale Ashaka came first, winning a princely award of N2 million while the duo of Hakeem Obayomi and Olalekan Agbaje were first and second runners-up and went home with N1 million and N750, 000 respectively.
Also, Miss Gift Okafor convinced the judges why she should be crowned Miss Glo and she took home the sum of N2 million, while Favour Akinbayo won N1 million as first runners-up and Faith Chika Obi, the second runners-up receiving N750,000. The Best dressed male and female also won N500,000 each.
In the dancing competition, Abiola Agunbiade won N500,000 in the male category with Tegha Mobaghan winning the same prize in the female category. Chukwudi Okorie and Otesanya Adetayo were winners in the singing competition, winning N500,000 each as well. Twenty “early birds”, who arrived early at the party, won N250,000 each, just as 50 “late crawlers” also got N500,000 each in the two gender categories.
The pageant also made the winners richer in the male and female categories and they went home with N2 million prize while the runners-up in both categories also smiled home.
The company also took time to celebrate this milestone with the cutting of a befitting anniversary cake, the design of which left many in awe.
For the staff who had been with the company from inception, it was also time to celebrate them at the night of unending celebrations. Eighty-nine of these staff were called up to receive award plaques and multi-million cash awards as tokens of recognition of their commitment and long service to the company.
DJ Neptune and DJ Nana had more than enough space and ambience to dish out great music to spice up the event.
The event, which was compered by renowned comedian, Tee A and broadcaster, Moet Abebe, also featured three music stars who kept the hall dancing most of the time.
The evening of non-stop entertainment featured top music acts including Wande Coal, Glo ambassadors, Chike Ezekpeazu Osebuka and Oluwatobiloba Anidugbe, aka Kizz Daniel who all kept the tempo of the event high with different hit tracks with Glo staff dancing and singing along.
Earlier in her welcome address, Globacom’s Executive Vice Chairman, Mrs Bella Disu, has commended staff in the various business units for their contribution to the success story of Globacom over the last two decades.
She called on them to move forward with greater zeal for bigger achievements in the future. “This year, I want us to move forward with even greater zeal and energy than we had in our first two decades and I want you know without a doubt that your work is the foundation and key to our future,” she said.
She promised the commitment of the company not only to the “company’s growth but to your individual success. We will work tirelessly to increase value for you, our staff, all our subscribers and to all stakeholders. This is our promise to you. Together, we are good and together we are unlimited”.
