Adeleke offers N250m scholarship to 65 indigent students in Osun

Ademola Adeleke storms venue of PDP’s primaries

NO fewer than 65 indigent students from Osun West Senatorial District were on Wednesday offered scholarship worth N250million by the Senator Ademola Nurudeen Adeleke, representing the district in the National Assembly.

The beneficiaries of the scholarship, who are from poor background, but with greater potentials in academics were to study different courses at the first degree level in Adeleke University, located in Ede, Osun State.

Addressing the students, Senator Adeleke said the scholarship scheme was part of the legacies of his late senior brother, Senator Isiaka Adeleke, adding that “this scholarship programme is a continuation of what my brother was doing and we will continue to do it for the benefit of the people.

According to him, “today’s ocassion is to principally give education a boost, through the sustenance of scholarship award scheme instituted in 2007 by Senator Isiaka Adeleke in. 2007/2008 academic session when he awarded 112 scholarship to deserving undergraduates in tertiary institutions across the country. He followed it up in 2008/2009 academic session with another award of 130 scholarship”.

Describing education as the key to real economic development of all nations, Adeleke said it was imperative to “dedicate good percentage of national resources to pay teachers better salary, to enable them in turn, give a good account of themselves by providing qualitative teaching to their students”.

He added that the ruling party was pessimistic when he promised to implement N250million scholarship scheme during the campaign for his election, saying “with the event of today, we have proved them wrong by delivering on our electoral promise to the people of Osun West Senatorial District”.

Adeleke urged the beneficiaries to explore the opportunities provided by the scholarship award to develop themselves and chart a better path to their future by devoting their time to their individual educational pursuit.

In his remark, the chairman, National Working Committee of the PDP, Senator Ahmed Makarfi described the scholarship award as a good development, capable of enhancing social, educational and economic growth in Osun State.

He stated, “APC is a government of denial and excuses. We are human in PDP. For all those who have left the party, we plead with them to forgive us and forget whatever issues that may have led to their exit. They should come back. Osun PDP should be accommodating and work in unity. What is closer to us may slip by if we don’t work in unity.

“Nigeria has suffered for a long time. We must come together to take over power next year, 2019. Without unity the power can slip through our fingers.

We must compromise and accommodate one another, let us come under one umbrella because there is enough space for us”, Makarfi posited.
