Address rising cost of living, Chiefs Council tells FG

The Akugbene – mein Traditional Chiefs Council in Bomadi Local Government Area of Delta State has tasked the federal government to rejig its economic policies and fashion out practicable measures capable of bringing down the high cost of living and mitigating the hardship being faced by Nigerians.

In a 6 – point communique issued at the end of its meeting weekend, presided over by the traditional ruler of the kingdom and first vice chairman of the Delta State Traditional Rulers Council, Pere S.P Luke Kalanama V111, the council also expressed concern over the incessant destruction of lives and properties of Nigerians by terrorist groups.

The communique which was signed by the palace secretary, Deinyou Brinemughan Anthony therefore called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to carry out holistic reforms in the nation’s security architecture in order to decisively tackle insecurity in the land.

“We decry the rising cost of living in the country, in its entirety and urge the Federal Authorities to come up with workable economic policies that could turn the situation around and bring the nation back to the path of sustainable economic growth and development’’, the council said.

It expressed pain and sadness over the devastating effects of flood on farmlands and properties in the coastal community and enjoined the Federal Government to take necessary and urgent steps to find a permanent solution to the perennial menace of flood in the country.

The Council applauded the Governor of Delta State, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for creating the Directorate of Riverine Infrastructure Development (DRID) to address underdevelopment in the riverine areas of Delta state saying the decision was a right step in the right direction.

“We are very happy over the decision of the Delta State Government in creating the Directorate of Riverine Infrastructure Development to specifically take charge of addressing infrastructural development in riverine communities across the state and we are hopeful that this gesture would do the needful.”

The Akugbene – Mein Traditional Chiefs Council also reaffirmed its unwavering commitment and support for Governor Oborevwori led administration in Delta State even as it appreciated the chairman of Bomadi Local government area, Hon. Roland Dagidi Andaye for his visionary, ingenious and impactful leadership style and encouraged him to continue to remain focused in the tasks ahead.
