Address herdsmen crisis

Published by

MONTHS back, Nigerians were in high spirit over the news that there is a victory over Boko Haram insurgents but little did people know that they were only waiting for the right time to attack. Though, the celebration was short-lived with various bombing crisis in the north and most recently the kidnap of 110 students in Dapchi. While the government is still battling with Boko Haram insurgencies, another deadly group surfaced and most states of the federation have been under serious attacks from this group.

It is now routine to hear reports about herdsmen attacks and this is not limited to a particular section of the country, but the entire country. Herdsmen’s attacks have led to loss of lives and properties among others. Though, the herdsmen comprise of Fulani men who are nomadic grazers and are expected to conduct their business in a peaceful manner. However, the truth is that this group has turned themselves into terrorists.

They are now worse than some terror groups due to the atrocities committed including mass killing, kidnapping and torturing as well as the way invade communities as being reported by the media. It is unfortunate that the criminal activities of this group are not abating, but the Federal Government seems to be treating it with kid gloves. The earlier the government proclaims these groups a terror group the better so that necessary actions will be taken to put an end to their terror acts.

This is to passionately appeal to the federal, state and local governments as well as security agencies to please save this country from the hands of herdsmen who have turned mass killings and kidnappings to their daily trade.
