Add value to your community, NYSC DG tasks corps members

Brigadier General Shuaibu Ibrahim, Director-General of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC), has tasked corps members to leave a positive impact and add value to any community they find themselves in, during their service year.

The DG gave this charge, on Tuesday, September 22, during the closing ceremony of the 2021 Batch ‘B’, Stream II corps members at the permanent orientation camp, Iseyin.

Ibrahim, in a statement delivered by the Oyo State Coordinator, Mrs Grace Ogbuogebe, urged the corps members to accept their posting to any location and ensure they add value to the communities they find themselves in.

He said, “I urge you to accept posting to any location and endeavour in good faith and perform your duties with diligence. You are also expected to appreciate and respect the cultures of the host communities.

“Furthermore, I enjoin you to add value to the communities by undertaking personal and group Community Development Service projects that will uplift their living standards.”

Ibrahim, who expressed her gratitude to God for making the entire orientation exercise a huge success reiterated the NYSC DG’s instruction that all corps members should shun any form of unauthorised journey and night trips.

“I advise you to avoid risky engagement such as staying out late at night; attending late-night parties; visitation of dangerous places and accepting car rides from strangers,” he added.

The NYSC DG further charged the corps members to shun every form of societal vices including drug abuse, advance-fee fraud, cybercrime and cultism throughout the period of their service year in the State.

Ibrahim also urged the newly sworn-in corps members to utilise the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) programme availed to them during the orientation course.

According to him, “NYSC SAED programme is aimed at equipping you for self-employment and wealth creation. I am delighted at the enthusiasm you demonstrated during the vocational and entrepreneurial training conducted in the Camp.”
