Those members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) appointed into various public offices by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, as part of the coalition agreement that preceded the 2019 elections, as well as those elected at the local government level on the platform of the ADC, have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Those concerned include three commissioners, Dr Wasiu Olatunbosun (Information, Culture and Tourism), Mr Adeniyi Adebisi (Agriculture and Natural Resources); Mr Seun Ashamu (Energy and Mineral Resources); some Special Advisers, Special Assistants, Head and members of parastatals and 93 appointed and elected representatives at the local government level.
Olatunbosun, sitting alongside some of the concerned defectors, made this known while addressing a press conference in Ibadan, on Tuesday.
He said the decision of the political functionaries to formally announce their defection from ADC to PDP was informed by the need to do everything within their powers to ensure that Governor Seyi Makinde wins a second term in office.
The information commissioner added that the political functionaries of ADC were joining PDP because Makinde had fulfilled his promise to the leaders of the party hence they were out to support him in his second term ambition.
Notwithstanding the defection of the political functionaries, Olatunbosun pointed out that the ADC structure, its exco from ward to local government to state remained intact.

“After much consultations with our leaders, we have decided to move to the PDP because we believe that Governor Seyi Makinde has fulfilled his promise with our leaders and we feel we should do everything within our power to give him the necessary support to make sure that he wins the second term. We are part of the success in 2019 and we believe if we join forces together with him, we will succeed together.
“We the appointees, are porting to PDP; in fact, all political functionaries, both elected and appointed. We will still have a public declaration. However, the ADC structure, exco remain from ward to state level.”
