Adamawa State government, on Saturday, said it spent N4.7 billion on the payment of outstanding salary arrears.
Governor Muhammadu Bindow indicated this on Saturday in Yola, while addressing women leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the 21 Local Government Areas of the state.
Bindow, who was represented by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abdulrahman Abba-Jimeta, said the money was from the N4.8 billion Paris Club refund given to the state by the Federal Government, the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported.
He explained that beneficiaries of the salary arrears included teachers and primary health workers, who were paid three months arrears while local government staff received two months arrears.
Bindow lauded the role played by women in the emergence of the APC government at state and national level, assuring them of the commitment of government to empower women in the state.
He explained that the 2017 budget had given priority attention to healthcare delivery, particularly in the area of maternal and child healthcare.
