THE Adamawa Fire Service said on Wednesday that it recorded 89 fire outbreaks in the state in 2018.
Mr Abdullahi Adamu, the Chief Fire Officer of the state, disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola.
Adamu said that 10 people who were trapped in water, uncompleted buildings and banks during the incidents were rescued.
He said that property worth over N145 million was destroyed while goods worth about N210 million were saved from the fire incidents.

“In 2018, the state fire service recorded a total of 89 different fire incidents and rescued 10 persons who were trapped in water, buildings and banks.
“In the year under review, there was no loss of life, but five of our officers got injured while on duty,” Adamu said.
He noted that due to sensitisation of the residents on fire prevention by the department, a significant decrease in the outbreak was recorded in 2018 against 2017 when over 100 cases were recorded.
On revenue generation, he said that the state fire department generated a total sum of N2.5 million in 2018.
Adamu said a shortage of staff, utility vans and chemicals to quench hydrocarbon fire, among others, were the challenges facing the department.
