The Adamawa State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has said the command in the 2024 secured 148 conviction of various drugs offenders in the state.
The convictions were recorded from the 536 people arrested in the out gone year.
Disclosing on Monday, in Yola, Adamawa State Commander of the Agency Cdr. Samson Agbuoalu said among the convicted offenders includes five female and 143 male with sentences raging from three months to 25 years while the age of those convicted ranged between 18 and 65 years old while 59 cases are still pending at the Federal High Court in Yola.
Mr. Agbuoalu added that the command, the year under review, recorded significant achievements in with the seizure of 4,880.70745 kilograms of illicit substances.
Among the confiscated substances were Cannabis Sativa, totaling 3,180.36422 kilograms, and psychotropic substances amounting to 1,700.29013 kilograms.
These included 1,090.63296 kilograms of Tramadol (equivalent to 1,758,868 capsules, tablets, and milliliters), 6.8665 kilograms of Diazepam (33,259 tablets), 577.60667 kilograms of Exol-5 (1,636,989 tablets), and 19.932 kilograms of codeine-laced cough syrups (44,592 milliliters).

Additionally, 0.0381 kilograms of Methamphetamine, 0.015 kilograms of Cocaine, 5 kilograms (22 bottles) of Formalin (locally known as Suck and Die), and 1.4 kilograms (15 bottles) of Akuskura herbal mixture were seized.
The diversity of the seized drugs underscores the evolving challenges of drug abuse and trafficking in the state.
He also disclosed that the Command’s Drug Demand Reduction Unit admitted 52 clients for counseling and rehabilitation, with 40 successfully completing the program.
“We had public awareness campaigns and over 85,000 individuals were reached through 142 programs conducted in schools, workplaces, communities, and faith-based institutions.
“The NDLEA disrupted the financial operations of drug traffickers by achieving the interim forfeiture of four vehicles used in drug trafficking and N1,207,268.00 in monetary exhibits, which were deposited into the Treasury Single Account (TSA)”.
Commander Agboalu reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to creating a drug-free society by intensifying drug interdiction efforts, leveraging technology, and strengthening stakeholder collaborations.
