In a bid to strengthen traditional institutions in Adamawa, the state government has announced the indefinite suspension of Alhaji Hassan Ja’afaru, the District Head of Daware in Fufore Local Government Area, for alleged gross misconduct, including corruption and maladministration.
The suspension was announced through an official letter from the Office of the Permanent Secretary, Department of Chieftaincy Affairs, made available to Tribune Online.
The letter, dated 25 April 2025 and signed by Adama Felicity Mamman, the Permanent Secretary, cited a “series of complaints made against you for maladministration, breach of security, confiscation of farmlands, and creating a vacuum that has led to traditional issues being unattended to as a result of your absence from your domain.”
The directive, issued under the authority of the Executive Governor of Adamawa State, ordered Alhaji Ja’afaru to immediately hand over all government properties in his possession to the district scribe while awaiting further directives.
The allegations against the District Head include misuse of power, illegal confiscation of farmlands, and neglecting his duties, which reportedly destabilised the traditional structure in Daware.
Some residents of the area viewed this development as a victory for them.
Ibrahim Abubakar stated, “This is a victory for the people of Adamawa and a testament that the government of Adamawa has a listening ear. For too long, we’ve watched those in power act with impunity. Justice is finally being served.”
The indefinite suspension marks a significant moment in Adamawa State’s governance, signalling the government’s commitment to addressing corruption and maladministration at all levels.
The governor has been praised for his prompt response, with many noting that it sets a precedent for accountability in traditional leadership roles.
