As the world marks communication day, Adamawa state deputy governor, Prof. Kaletawpa Farauta, has charged journalists to hold on to the tenets of their profession as their reportage can create peaceful coexistence and also create friction if not reported in the true perspective.
Farauta was speaking on Sunday at St Augustine Catholic Church, Bekaji, Yola in commemoration of World Communication Sunday.
World Communication Sunday for this year is themed: “Artificial intelligence and the wisdom of the heart towards a fully human communication”.
She urged newsmen to exhibit professionalism through the dissemination of truth, adding that despite improved technology, “we can not do away with human commutation.
“I Thank the media, many have paid the supreme sacrifice in the course of work. Many of you have covered areas that are dangerous in reportage of happenings”
“We pray God will sustain the media to continue reporting happenings around the world,” she said.
The Catholic Bishop of Yola, Most Reverend Stephen Dami Mamza, in his address, enjoined Christians to stand against any divisive tendencies and work towards achieving Christ’s desire for unity among His followers.
In his remark, Dr. Stephen Maduwa, said the media has played a major role in shaping our democracy stressing that the peace we enjoy today in Adamawa state was as a result of the role played during the last general election.
Maduwa also had his child dedicated to God during the service, praying to God to bless families seeking the fruit of the womb.
