It was an event to remember as African ChangeMakers Women Network (ACWN) organised a two-day workshop at St Louis Grammar School Mokola, Ibadan.
The event was graced by Mrs Adefemi Bucknor-Arigbede, Director of American Corner, Ibadan and Mentor at the WomentoringGirls Team Africa.
The workshop was also to mark the International Day of the Girlchild 2021 with the theme “Empowering Girls for the future!” The event also took place online.
Bucknor-Arigbede advised the girls to work hard in their studies in order to have good grades so as to qualify for female-only scholarship opportunities, particularly in science subjects and other fields of study. She said with this, they can be able to achieve whatever they desire as girls.
Furthermore, she encouraged them to be their sister’s keeper and to assist each other through life.
She also said there was a need for more females in politics because if the Nigerian president was a female, things won’t be this hard as females and more empathic.
During the session, Bucknor-Arigbede promised to work jointly with African ChangeMakers Women Network (ACWN) and the hostel mistress of St. Louis to take the girls on an excursion to the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA).
This she said will assist their career development and give an insight into the independence that agriculture-based careers bring.
At the empowering sessions, the students of the school were amazed at the wealth of information and knowledge shared with them during this event.
There were other mentors from other African countries at the event including Belta Teteh from Cameron, Bonolo Belindah Mumbatsi from Bostwana that took part in workshops with life-changing topics.
