Hon. Olatunbosun Oyintiloye, a prominent member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun, has called on President Bola Tinubu to take immediate action to alleviate the economic difficulties faced by Nigerians.
In a statement made to newsmen on Sunday in Osogbo, Oyintiloye, a former lawmaker and member of the defunct APC Presidential Campaign Council (PCC), expressed his concern over the worsening hardship due to recent economic policies. He acknowledged President Tinubu’s efforts but emphasized the need for quicker and more effective strategies to provide instant relief to the masses.
Oyintiloye highlighted the impact of recent increases in pump prices, which have led to higher costs for food, electricity, and cooking gas. He criticized the slow implementation of policies intended to ease these burdens, including the suspension of customs duties and taxes on imported food items—a measure announced two months ago but yet to be implemented.
He said, “Nigerians are hopeful for a positive turnaround in the country, but measures to achieve this must be accelerated. The president should ensure that every bureaucratic bottleneck impeding the swift implementation of policies is removed. The economic suffering is becoming unbearable, and the president must act fast.”

Oyintiloye urged President Tinubu to address the delays in the implementation of the 150-day duty-free window for the importation of essential food items like maize, rice, and wheat. He stressed that while the president is committed to improving the situation, it is crucial for those responsible for executing these policies to be more proactive.
“The president cannot be everywhere, which is why his team must be effective in carrying out his directives. The masses are angry and hungry, and all measures to alleviate their suffering should be implemented swiftly,” he added.
He appealed to those responsible for drafting the guidelines for the duty-free policy to expedite their work, emphasizing that timely implementation could help reduce food prices without negatively affecting local production.
Oyintiloye concluded by encouraging Nigerians to continue supporting President Tinubu, noting that while current policies may be painful, they are intended to bring long-term benefits.
