The Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) project, Zamfara state has established five weather metrology stations, ready to be commissioned across the senatorial district in the state.
This was disclosed by the Zamfara state ACReSAL project coordinator Nasiruddeen Bello during the closing of a two-day stakeholders workshop on the micro watershed catchment management plan development project organized by ACReSAL in collaboration with Proxy Logistics Limited funded by World Bank held at Karma Hotel in Gusau, Zamfara state capital.
The ACReSAL project coordinator Nasiruddeen Bello revealed that the weather metrology stations were established to monitor the weather in the state and alert happenings to the communities through media sensitisation in the state.
According to him, the weather metrology stations were established across the Senatorial district that includes Gusau, Anka, Gummi, Shinkafi and Bakura areas.
“All the established five weather metrology stations were ready for commissioning, we are only waiting for consent from the executive Governor Dauda Lawal,” he stated.
Earlier on, during the workshop, Professor Akobundu Amadi from Proxy Logistics Limited disclosed that ACReSAL is a project funded by the World Bank across 19 states and Abuja, aimed to address the challenges of land degradation and climate change on a multidimensional scale.
Amadi maintained that the ACReSAL project was aimed to provide livelihood to communities, hence there is a need to have a catchment management plan for the success of the project and its sustainability.
He urged the benefiting communities of the ACReSAL project to always see the projects brought to their areas as their own project for progress and development.
On day two of the workshop, presentations were made by Amadi on roles and responsibilities in catchment management with roles of government, private sector and communities, using a collaborative approach for effective implementation.
