Acquisition of Airbus A220-300, new dawn for air transport — Onyema

The latest acquisition and the delivery of the first out of 10 aircraft that Ibom Air ordered from the world’s largest airplane maker, Airbus, marks a significant milestone for air transport in Nigeria. The handover ceremony took place at Airbus’s facility in Canada and was attended by the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Udom Emmanuel, the Chief Operating Officer of the airline, Captain Mfon Udom, and the Chief Operating Officer (COO), George Uriesi.

Commenting on this achievement, Allen Onyema, the Chairman and CEO of Air Peace, congratulated Ibom Air and highlighted the importance of this development for the Nigerian aviation industry. He emphasized that the addition of more aircraft to the fleet of Nigerian carriers would lead to job creation, contribute to the nation’s GDP, and strengthen their position in the market, enabling them to provide more affordable airfares to both local and international destinations.

Onyema expressed his joy at the progress of Nigerian carriers, noting that it is a historic moment for the country’s aviation sector as different domestic carriers are ordering brand new equipment for the first time. He praised the achievements of Ibom Air and other indigenous airlines for providing employment opportunities to thousands of Nigerians.

The Airbus executives, including President and CEO Benoît Schultz, handed over the Airbus A220-300 to Ibom Air. They highlighted the aircraft’s global recognition for fuel efficiency, cutting-edge technology, and comfort. The A220-300 is adapted for short and medium-haul commercial operations, with a range of up to seven hours, positioning Ibom Air for expansion across diverse African destinations.

Mfon Udom, the CEO of the Akwa Ibom state-owned carrier, emphasized the game-changing impact of the Airbus A220-300 on Ibom Air’s services. He stated that the introduction of this aircraft to their fleet represents a significant leap forward, reinforcing their commitment to providing world-class airline services.

As Ibom Air continues its growth plan, passengers can expect a superior travel experience with world-class on-board services, schedule reliability, and on-time departures as the airline prioritizes these aspects. The airline remains dedicated to providing unparalleled air travel experiences during this new phase of expansion.
