Account for N2.5bn health insurance funds, Omisore charges Aregbesola

The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Osun State, Senator Iyiola Omisore, has expressed concern over what he called the “ill state of health” in the state.

Consequently, he called on the state governor, Mr Rauf Aregbesola, to account for the N2.5 billion said to have been released as the take-up funds for the state’s health insurance scheme.

Omisore, who spoke in Osogbo, on Sunday, over the development, said he became more worried that apart from the years of rot and neglect in the system, “public finance has been invested in the purchase of a state of the art ambulance for a primary care facility that has neither driver nor patient.”

He contended that, “the Osun health insurance scheme as planned will only limit patients to the services of the dilapidated primary health care centres, devoid of the services of Health Maintenance OrganisationOrganisations (HMO), making the N2.5 billion released for the take-off of this destined to fail to project a waste.”

Omisore lamented the “lack of administrative ideas of the state government, which he said suggested that “the major problem of this present government is its inability to invest in human capital development, manpower development,” which he said the state lacked in the last four years.

He said it was this “deficiency in technical know-how of the government, that caused it to “destroy the civil service, and reduced it to an institution where workers can no longer receive their salaries.”

Omisore, who deplored the situation, said, “the civil service has been destroyed and there is gross mass unemployment everywhere. Also, traders have nothing to trade with, there are no medicines and experts in our hospitals, even, graduates are not well engaged, all of them have been turned to streets sweepers in the state.”

He said, if the government lacked ideas, it can be taught, as he advised that it could have gone for training and get retrained, likewise, he admonished the government players to invest in civil servants, and let them also go for training and ensure they are well remunerated.

According to Omisore, “if they asked us, we would have taught them how to handle governance and told them to give young graduates pensionable and proud jobs. Graduates should be well engaged, and don’t turn them to streets sweepers.”

Omisore condemned the government for offering graduates “non-pensionable jobs that lowered their integrity., asking, “Will they allow their children in the university and as graduates take up O’Yes jobs and be sweeping the streets in the morning?

While he called on the people of Osun State to “vote the APC out and embrace SDP,” who he said is a party poised to restore the state and its people back to its lost glory, he said the party had already taken care of every member of the state in its well spelt out programmes when it assumes power in the state.
