Abuja: Police commence investigation into alleged N29m extortion allegation

The Nigeria Police Force has commenced an investigation following a petition by a human rights activist and 2023 Labour Party candidate Delta State House of Assembly, Harrison Gwamnishu over alleged extortion of N29,900,000 million from an Abuja resident by some Police officers.

The police said it is currently a case of alleged extortion according to the petitioner, who claimed that the officers transferred the sum of N29,900,000 million from the victim to two separate bank account numbers.

Responding to the video on X, the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi noted that the victims and Harrison came to his office on Friday, and an investigation has commenced.

“We have taken over this case at the FHQ. The victims and Harrison came to my office on Friday, and we have commenced the investigation into the case. Justice must be served. Thanks. Ire oo.”

In the video posted on X, the activist said “A young man was driving to his building site and was stopped by some Police officers dressed in black with AK-47 rifles and magazines they took him around Abuja. He was then taken to an unknown location and was searched. The officers searched his phone and saw his account balance, then asked him to transfer everything to two account numbers.”
