The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) has announced that full electricity supply will be restored in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its neighboring environs by February 23.
According to AEDC, the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) is currently working to restore the underground transmission line that was vandalized near Millennium Park in Abuja.
In a power supply update posted on its official X handle on Wednesday, AEDC stated, “The Transmission Company of Nigeria has assured us that restoration efforts are actively ongoing, with its engineers working day and night to replace and reconnect the damaged cable.
“TCN has committed to complete the work and restore normal power supply to Central Area Transmission Substation (AT5) on February 23, 2025.”

AEDC also acknowledged the inconvenience caused by the disruption and appealed for patience from affected residents. “We regret the continued power supply disruption affecting Wuye, Utako, Jabi, Mabushi, Katampe Districts, Life Camp, Wuse Zones 1-7, Wuse 2, Maitama, parts of the Central Business District, and surrounding areas,” the company stated.
The outage, which has lasted for weeks, was attributed to the vandalization of the 132kV Katampe – Central Area underground transmission cable. AEDC noted that in the meantime, “load management will be implemented to optimize available supply.”
Meanwhile, AEDC disclosed that 188 locations within the FCT experienced power outages between January 1 and February 11, 2025, due to various technical faults affecting its feeders.
A review of 26 public notices posted on the company’s X handle showed that multiple areas faced blackouts, including Garki, Kubwa, Banex Plaza, and the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) headquarters.
AEDC assured residents that its technical team is “working tirelessly to restore power as quickly as possible,” adding, “We regret any inconvenience this may cause and appeal for your patience.”
