THE Minister of Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Malam Muhammad Musa Bello, on Wednesday, described the congestion on Abuja-Nyanya-Mararaba axis as a collective failure, which must be forthwith corrected.
Malam Bello, who stated that the unnecessary artificial hindrances on the road must be corrected by both the government and the masses, then lamented that the residents of the area in particular have turned the roadside to refuse sites, saying such attitude was unacceptable in a developing city like Abuja.
He made this known in his office in Abuja, while inaugurating Ministerial Task Force on Traffic decongestion on Abuja-Nyanya-Jikwoyi-Karishi road.
According to him, “Abuja-Nyanya-Mararaba-Orozo road congestion is what I can say it is a collective failure. A dual carriage way when constructed to cater for the people in Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) but unfortunately today can be described as refuse dump roads.”
“This is not Abuja of our dream. This is unacceptable. Your job is a difficult task because you need to explain to them while things should be done in the right way,” he stated.
The minister told the members of the committee that the new assignment was a very difficult task, hence, the reason to persuade the residents on the need to do things in the appropriate manners.
The assignments, according to the minister, include sensitization of the masses, sanitation of the environment, as well as free-flow of drainages and evacuation of refuses from the roadside among others.
“You have to be kind, diplomatic and understanding, while carrying out your duties,” Malam Bello advised.
Responding, the Chairman of the committee, Major General Emmanuel Nienge, retired, promised to carry out the assignment diligently, and submit the report, according to six months specification.
