Like the maiden edition of Abuja Bantaba, a B2B travel and tourism show that break the jinx of travel trade and exhibition in the federal Capital Territory, Abuja Jabamah is another shooting star in the meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) that is not only going to reinvent the hospitality sector, but also bring new thinking and packaging strength to boost stakeholders business in Nigeria.

MICE is not a stranger in the Nigeria travel and tourism market because every events in Nigeria has one form of MICE activities, but for the first time in the history of the tourism industry, the word MICE gets prominence as a new signature of bracing up with the global trend to bringing new leverage to hotel business in Nigeria through the introduction of Abuja Jabamah.

The organiser, who have successfully replicated different MICE events in West Africa starting with Akwaaba African Travel market in Lagos; Bantaba which was moved from Abuja to Port Harcourt, then the Accra Weizo in Ghana and the rave of the moment, the Abuja Jabamah, is not only a welcome development, but also a testimony of Nigeria awakening the spirit of MICE in West Africa.

However, Abuja Jabamah came with the new trend and innovative platform tend to revolutionise the way tourism and travel business are being run in other places in a way to remain in the new space of sustainable tourism.

Jabamah did not only streamline the numerious steps and advantages tourism and travel have in terms of growing an economy and opening myriad of new business directions, but also demystified other components of low hanging fruits in tourism, which the event showcase ‘MICE and Experience’ as the lowest hanging possibility for anyone wishing to succeed in tourism sector.

The event which also featured different session focusing on grey areas in the hotel and allied sector of the tourism gave participants an ample opportunity to gain knowledgeable tips and skills to step up their game in creating new experiences for their clientele.

Also the first MICE and hotel show in Abuja honoured MICE personalities, airlines, hotels, states, products and other individual who practical effort have helped to sustain the sector in Nigeria.

Taking the first topic of the day at the Abuja Jabamah, is a MICE expert and Chief Executive Officer of Tandaza Africa, Tanzania, Charity Githanji who anchored an interactive session on MICE in the Hotel Environment, according to her, no country can attain greatness in tourism in the 21st century without making Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions a threshold of it tourism sector.

Again for any hotel to practically break even in this era of competitiveness in the industry, such hotel must key into one or more components of MICE.

“The power of MICE has made me to meet wonderful people, culture and the best I had is the Nigerian Suya, which have always been my favourite any time I have the great opportunity to visit Nigeria.

“I have practically improved by myself and business network across Africa, which also gave me the seamless connectivity to operate from anywhere and get things done, that is the power of MICE.

MICE, in actual fact connect and make us to get to all the content of tourism through consistent keeping in touch with business partners after every event which is also a way of creating bond with partners in the industry.

Speaking on the role of the government in creating an enabling environment for the stakeholders, the MICE expert explained that government must lobby to attract big convention or international meetings to hold in Nigeria.

“Government needs to go beyond what they have in terms of few meetings and conferences through the assistance of the organised private sector.

“She also threw a search light on the significance of the media in making things work for the government and the private sector, the success of the every public and private sector partnership depend on how greatly the media are carry along in any they do,

“Also media must be given priority to enable MICE event(s) get wide coverage and leverage.”
