ABU approves immortalisation of Yusuf Bala Usman

The Governing Council of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria has approved the immortalisation of Dr. Yusuf Bala Usman for his significant contributions to the development of the university.

At its 205th regular meeting held in December 2024, the Council approved the immortalisation of the late Dr. Yusufu Bala Usman, the late Prof. Abdullahi Mahadi, and the late Prof. Ezzeldin Mukhtar Abdulrahman in recognition of their significant contributions to the development of Ahmadu Bello University and the nation at large.

The immortalisation will be done by naming the university’s facilities, such as the Assembly Hall, after them.

Prof. Kabir Bala, the Vice Chancellor of ABU, had recommended the immortalisation of these distinguished personalities.

One of the immortalised personalities, Dr. Yusufu Bala Usman, was an erudite scholar, lecturer, intellectual, political activist, and a one-time Head of the History Department.

The Council stated that Dr Yusuf Usman’s intellectual contributions have significantly contributed to propelling the former Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) of the university to national and international fame.

Dr. Usman was a “mentor par excellence whose mentees have contributed and continue to contribute to the development of the university and nation,” the body noted.
