Abiodun proposes N52.36bn for Ogun road construction, rehabilitation in 2020

The Ogun State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure has proposed to expend N52.36bn on the road construction and other necessary rehabilitation in the year 2020.

Special Adviser to the Governor Dapo Abiodun on Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Ade Adesanya revealed this during the ongoing 2020 budget defence at the State House of Assembly, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta on Monday.

Adesanya also said N1.208bn is being proposed for the procurement of firefighting equipment for additional fire stations to be established in four locations across the state. The stations, according to him will complement the already existing sub-fire service station.

He noted that the proposal is captured in the N57.42bn total budget of the ministry for the next fiscal year.

It is believed that the roads will help achieve a well-integrated and sustainable road network to further open up the state for more investments and industrialisation.

According to Adesanya, out of the proposed capital expenses of N55.16bn, a total of N100m would be earmarked to procure earth moving equipment, N2.26bn would go for recurrent expenditure, while N2.3bn was fixed as the Ministry’s revenue for next year.

In a related development, consultant to the governor and General Manager, State Public Work Agency (OGPWA), Gbenga Akintola, said that N20.847bn would be spent on the construction of more rural roads in all local government councils in the state and the clearing of silted drains totalling 19km.

The township roads to be constructed include those in Abeokuta South and North, Akute, Ifo, Ewekoro, Odeda, Obafemi-Owode Egba, Mowe/Ibafo, Ijebu-ode, Ago Iwoye, Oru/Ilaporu, Ijebu Igbo, Ogbere, Ijebu Ife, Iperu, Sagamu, Ogijo, Abigi, Odogbolu, Ikenne, Ilese Palace, Ogidi/Itamarun/Imomo, Sango-Otta, Igbesa, Ado-Odo, Agbara, Ilaro, Owode Yewa, Ayetoro, Igbogila, Ebute Igbo Iro, Imeko, Idiroko and Ipokia.

Giving the budget breakdown of the agency, Akintola said of the proposed total budget estimate of N25.522bn for the year 2020, N21.302bn would be set aside for various capital projects while N4.22bn would be expended on recurrent expenses.
