Newly posted Police Commissioner to Bauchi State, Abiodun Alabi, has resumed duty declaring that his focus will be on community policing.

Speaking as soon as he resumed at the State Police Command headquarters in Bauchi, on Monday, Abiodun Alabi said that, “security is everybody’s business, therefore, I will ensure that the local community participated in the act of effective policing in the state.”

He said: “I am from Ekiti State, I don’t know anywhere here in Bauchi State, I will need the community leaders to cooperate with the Police in order to be able to effectively police the entire state, that is what is called community policing.”

He added: “Policing Bauchi State is going to be easy because from what I have heard before I came here coupled with what I have seen the few days I have spent here, Bauchi State is the most peaceful state to live in among others in the North -East subregion.”

Abiodun Alabi, however, said it does not mean that Police personnel in the state will go to sleep assuring that, “We will do our best to provide adequate security for lives and properties in the state but we will not condone any act of criminality.”

He also assured that Human Rights will be respected as only the guilty will be prosecuted appealing for cooperation from members of the public by volunteering useful information that can lead to the arrest of suspects.

Earlier while handing over, the immediate past Police Commissioner, Lawal Tanko Jimeta, charged officers and men of the command to support and cooperate with the new commissioner who he described as a seasoned Police officer having distinguished himself in the Force since he was commissioned.

Lawal Jimeta advised that the new Commissioner should seek advice as he gradually settled down because according to him, “Police duty demands collectivity, cooperation and working together. I, therefore, urge you to seek useful advice as you lead the troop.”

He added that Policing Bauchi State is not like other states considering the peaceful nature of the state warning however that there are areas that need constant attention by the Police.
