Anchor University, Ayobo, Lagos, has vowed to continue enforcing its rules guiding the conduct of students, staff, and even parents while on campus.
The university stated that its mission is to provide holistic education that combines academic excellence with moral integrity and spiritual growth, which aligns with “the vision of our founding father, Pastor William Folorunso Kumuyi, the General Superintendent of Deeper Christian Life Ministry.”
The Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Samuel Oye Bandele, made this commitment while addressing journalists at the fourth and fifth combined pre-convocation press conference held on campus on Monday.
A total of 292 students from the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 academic sets across various disciplines will graduate at the event scheduled for Friday, January 10.
According to the Vice-Chancellor, it is not enough for Anchor University to deliver world-class education that prepares students for global competitiveness without also raising them as God-fearing future leaders with high moral standards, enabling them to become positive change agents in society.

“These are our core virtues as a faith-based university, and we shall not deviate from this path,” he stressed.
Bandele, a former Vice-Chancellor of Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, and Professor of Educational Evaluation, explained that Anchor University is committed to training students to be “disciplined, dependable, dutiful, honest, diligent, decent, and more.”
He outlined some of the unacceptable activities and behaviors detailed in the university’s handbook, including examination malpractice, undue award of marks, hooliganism, gangsterism, cultism, drug abuse, rebellion, the use of Android phones, indecent dressing, sexual immorality, disrespectfulness, and absenteeism. He emphasized that neither students nor staff are allowed to engage in these practices, as penalties are in place for violators.
He added that for Nigeria to become a great country in all spheres, citizens must cultivate a habit of doing the right thing from childhood and during their school years. While he acknowledged that universities are typically environments of freedom, he clarified that this freedom must have limitations to ensure a peaceful and progressive society.
Speaking on academic programs, the Vice-Chancellor disclosed that all programs offered by the university have been fully accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC), including the most recent additions: Physiology and Software Engineering. He also mentioned that accreditation for 11 more programs is underway.
Bandele further noted that every student, regardless of their course of study, must acquire two professional certificates in addition to their degree before graduation. He explained that this requirement is aimed at producing well-rounded and fit-for-purpose graduates.
