Abia: Gov Otti’s wife assures eradication of maternal, child mortality

The Wife of the Abia State Governor, Mrs Priscilla Otti, early this week, visited a mother who gave birth to quadruplets at the Federal Medical Center Umuahia, with an assurance that the government of Abia state led by Dr Alex Otti, is poised to ensure that Maternal and newborn Mortality is eradicated in the state.

The mother of the quadruplets is Mrs Elizabeth Onwudiwe from Mbano in Imo state.

According to Mrs Otti, “This is what we demonstrated a few days ago at Umuahia South LGA when we flagged off the Maternal/Newborn Health Week to sensitize, even the pregnant women on how to care for themselves during pregnancy.

She further stated, “I am here to show support for the woman and her family, though she is not conscious now, I know with the facilities and capacities of personnel here at FMC, she will pull through.

” I have also seen the children and they are doing well, we will support them financially and pay the bills”.

Responding, the Medical Director, Federal Medical Centre Umuahia, Professor Azubuike Onyebuchi, said that with the facilities in the hospital, every effort is geared towards reviving the woman.

Prof. Onyebuchi explained that her complications were caused by the number of children she was delivered.

Expressing his appreciation to the wife of the governor, the husband of the woman, Mr Chuma Onwudiwe, thanked the governor’s wife for her support and prayed to God to strengthen her in the course of discharging her duties as the first lady of the state.
