Abia court restrains APC from accepting list of ward congress

An Abia State High Court sitting in Ukwa, on Thursday, restrained the All Progressives Congress (APC), at the national level from receiving and or accepting any other list for the ward congresses held on Saturday, July 31, 2021 other than that from the recognised Abia APC executive led by Hon Chief Donatus Nwankpa until the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

In a suit no. HUK/31M/2021, Davies Jumbo and Engr John Nnah Vs APC, Mai Mala Buni and 10 others, and signed by Hon. Justice C. H. Ahuchaogu, the court also granted an interim order on the APC and Mai Mala Buni “by themselves, agents, servants and privies from dissolving and or tampering with the duly constituted party structure of All Progressive Congress in Abia State from the wards, local government and the state ked by the 10th Respondent (Chief Donatus Nwankpa, the state party chairman) pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice”.

Recall that a factional leader of APC in Abia state, High Chief Ikechi Emenike had conducted a parallel congress on Saturday and a ward congress committee from the national Secretariat of APC led by Rt. Hon. Israel Goli was said to have accorded it recognition and shunned the party recognized structure led by Nwankpa during the Congress..

The court restrained the Mai Mala Buni-led National interim leadership of APC from accepting or acting on the list said to have emanated from any quarter apart from the APC leadership in Abia State headed by Hon. Donatus Nwankpa.

Hon Nwankpa had at a press conference on that Saturday declared members of the ward congress committee from the National Secretariat who were in Abia to monitor the congress ‘wanted’.

He had expressed his shock that despite being in possession of congress materials, the party in the state did not see members of the committee, fueling speculations that they might have been hijacked by Chief Ikechi Emenike who was laying claim to the leadership of APC in the state.

Addressing the Press on Thursday, Nwankpa said the party is not factionalised in the state, attributing any confusion in the party in the state during the last ward congress to the inordinate ambition “of one man” in the state.

Nwankpa regretted “one man will be in the cooler and when it is time for Congress, he comes out.

“There are people who will continue to contest in primaries and will continue to lose. The committee from Abuja ought to work with Nwankpa and then, there is an Imposter.”

He said that APC in Abia was not divided but determined to rebuild the state, stating that the party has reaffirmed the 2018 suspension of Chief Ikechi Emenike from the ward through the LGA to the state.

He also announced the suspension of Ikechi Emenike factional chairman, Enyinna Harbor who is from Arochukwu ward II recognised.
