Abdulrazaq hails Kwarapoly for breaking new grounds in infrastructural development

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State has commended the management of the Kwara State Polytechnic (Kwarapoly), Ilorin, for breaking new ground in infrastructural development.

Speaking at the 29th convocation ceremony for the 2022-2023 academic set, the governor, who was represented by his Chief of Staff (CoS), Prince Abdulkadir Aliyu Mahe, said that the state government would continue to support the polytechnic in its set goals.

Some of the projects commissioned by the institution through internally generated revenue (IGR) include 33KV projects, renovation of old Institute of Technology (IOT) lecture halls, laboratories, workshops, and offices; 2.5Km reinforced concrete drainage; the remodelled library and Information Science department; Zango power projects; renovation of the IOT complex; construction of drainages; landscaping and construction of walkways; a centralised online research assessment and submission system (CORASS)/Digital Project Binding; and renovation of a medical lodge.

The Governor, who stressed the need to sustain peace within and outside the polytechnic, called on the management of the polytechnic to ensure zero tolerance for cultism.

He urged the graduates to work smart and utilise the opportunity offered by technology, saying that they should use the practical training and entrepreneurial knowledge acquired in the polytechnic to rule their world.

Also speaking, the rector of the Kwara State Polytechnic, Engineer Dr. Addul Jimoh Mohammed, urged the graduates of the polytechnic to be good ambassadors of the institution and responsible citizens of the country.

“You have laboured hard, toiled tirelessly, and burned the candle at both ends, and these have culminated in this joyous event. No doubt, your dreams have been fulfilled, and you have become the pride and glory of your parents and guardians.

“Therefore, you must always remember that the certificates in your possession are very precious; they are confirmations that you have proved yourselves worthy in character and learning”, he said.

The rector also commended Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq for creating an enabling environment for the management of the institution to discharge its duties.

He said some of the challenges facing the institution include funding, illegal occupation of polytechnic land, porosity of the permanent campus, accreditation of programmes, and ageing structures.

He called on the government to come to the rescue of the institution through the construction of perimeter fences to protect lives and property.
