Abductors of Ex-Ekiti varsity DVC demand N50m ransom

Abductors of former Deputy Vice Chancellor of the Ekiti State University (EKSU) Ado-Ekiti, Professor Femi Olaofe have demanded N50 million for the victim’s release.

Saturday Tribune learned that the professor of industrial chemistry was kidnapped in his residence located at the state housing estate in the state capital on Tuesday night.

It was gathered that the university don from Are-Ekiti was kidnapped alongside his driver.

A source who spoke on the condition of anonymity said that the abductors contacted the family on Friday, demanding for the ransom.

He said, “Our man was kidnapped on Tuesday night in his house located in the state housing estate with his security guard.

“They took them away and we only had their call on Friday demanding for N50 million as ransom to release him.”

Meanwhile, the Are-Ekiti Development Association (ÀŔEDAA) has called on the Ekiti State Police Command to do everything humanly possible to secure the release of the professor.

A three-man team of the Association led by the President, James Adebayo,  met with the Commissioner of Police, Ekiti State Command, Adeniran Akinwale on the incident on Friday, calling on the police authority to secure the safe release of Professor Olaofe.

Speaking at the meeting, Adebayo conveyed the message of the Kabiyesi  Alare of Are-Ekiti, Oba Boluade Adebiyi,  and the entire people of Are Ekiti to the commissioner of Police.

According to a statement signed by ÀŔEDAA Public Relations Officer, Odunayo Ehinafe, the president said” , We have come to meet with you on the sad incident of the kidnap of our illustrious son and a professor of repute, Professor Femi Olaofe.

Responding, the commissioner of police, Adeniran Akinwale who confirmed kidnap assured the community that the command would ensure the safe return of the kidnapped victim.

“We want to inform you that, my men have recovered Professor Olaofe’s personal vehicle in which he was kidnapped from his residence. The vehicle was recovered in a bush along Oke-Ila-Afao road, where it was abandoned by the kidnappers.

“I want to assure the family and relations of the victim,  that the  Ekiti State Police Command would do everything within their powers to get him back home safely,” the CP said.
