Abducted Salihu Tanko Islamiyya pupils released

Published by

ABDUCTED pupils of Salihu Tanko Islamiyya School in Tegina in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State were late evening on Thursday released by their abductors in the boundary between Kaduna and Niger State.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that the pupils were on their way to Minna, the state capital, where they would go for medical examination.

A source close to the state government said the governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello, would be on hand to receive the pupils today at the Government House in order to welcome them and reunite them with their families.

The pupils were abducted from their school premises at Tegina on Sunday, April 30. Earlier, there were fears and panic among parents and other relations of the pupils following the reported death of two of them last week.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that the death of the abductees – a boy who was six years old and a girl, who was 10 — further moved parents and authorities of the school to start raising funds again so as to secure the release of others.

The headteacher of the school, Malam Alhassan Garba Abubakar, had informed Nigerian Tribune on Thursday that the conditions of the pupils as painted to him by the bandits who contacted him were serious.
