Abducted Lagos students regain freedom in Ondo

AFTER two months in the den of their abductors, respite came the way of the six Lagos students kidnapped by the gunmen from their Igbonla Model College in the Epe area of Lagos State, as they regained their freedom on Friday.

The release of the six students followed the intervention of the Ondo State government who the abductors contacted vowing not to release the children to any other state government in the south west except the Ondo State government.

It was gathered that the state government however mandated the state Deputy governor, Agboola Ajayi, who hailed from the local government to ensure the freedom of the school children.

According to an official of the state government who spoke with Tribune Online on condition of anonymity, said that the state government has been negotiating the release of the students in the last ten days.

He said the abductors vowed not to release the students to Lagos State government and disclosed that the Delta state government also tried to secure the release of the students but to no avail.

He however said the militants in the early hour of yesterday released the six students between Ajakpa community and ugbonla creek in the state.

He said the students disclosed that they had been living comfortable with their abductors in the last 64 days saying they were being fed with bread and sardines

However the released students were taken to the Lagos by the state official where they are expected to join a flight to Abuja, to meet with the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osibajo who mandated the security agents to secure the release of the students within the shortest time.

The gunmen stormed the school some two months ago  comes more than two months during the morning assembly and abducted the students.
